| Hello! September has been busy so far, as we opened up BLAST Art Gallery in St Andrews Mews again this year. ![]() As you can see, we have moved to a new venue! And we definitely prefer it. The front of the gallery is divided between Markus’ and my work, which leaves the room at the back especially for Elina Rudzite and Justina Kochansky’s fantastic work. ![]() Justina’s beautiful miniature sculptures made from eggs are quite stunning! The one at the top is made using cat’s whiskers, and she states “no cats were harmed or even slightly annoyed with the making of this sculpture” I love it! Elina’s work is beautiful, diverse and quirky – and very popular, especially her little shell faces. But they have to be seen in person to really appreciate the delicate work involved. ![]() Markus sold his lovely card-cut of Beachy Head, where he used two different colours of card very successfully. We could have sold it more than once! We’re getting some prints made for those who were disappointed! Here is Markus’ most recent card-cut – just an idea he had of a boat stranded too high to have arrived there naturally… ![]() ‘Stranded on West Hill After a Rough Night’ – 15″ x 11.5″ – £220 unframed. (special price for you) Here’s my latest portrait that I painted of a lovely girl I met in London ![]() ‘The Empath’ – Oil on Canvas – 20″ x 16″ – £400 Our Arty Party was a really great and wonderful experience, full of love, which on the day we thought may not happen as it was POURING until 4pm! Thank you to all who made it! We had a constant flow of comings and goings from midday through to the night, celebrating both Markus’ and Glenn Vaness’ birthdays. The musicians really all excelled themselves! First Mike Willis sang and played his wonderful creations, which most of you know very well, I’m sure! This was followed by Gabriel Moreno, whose work is pure poetry. Then Anita Jardine sang her prettily sung, bluntly worded songs, followed by Mike Hatchard – the highlight being when he made songs up about some of us there – very, very funny! ![]() Apart from BLAST we have some work on show at the ‘Manifesto’ exhibition, curated by Louise Whitham, at Barnaby’s Jazz Lounge in Robertson st. There are going to be two opportunities to Meet The Artists, and visit the Print Fair, the first being on: 11th October, Sat, 1pm – 4pm and then again on Sat, 18th Oct when Markus will also be giving an art talk entitled ‘Edges’ from 12 – 1pm, with the Print Fair following at 1pm – 4pm. ![]() I will now give you a head’s up – I’ll be curating the show at Barnaby’s in Jan and Feb. The theme is ‘New Beginnings’. I am just starting to look out for artists and work. If you have any work you would like to show with this theme, reply here to pre-apply.The selections won’t be made until I’ve seen all the work, but I would love to hear from you! That’s it, folks, for now. I hope you all enjoyed the Coastal Currents explosion of art here in Hastings/St Leonards! With Much Love, Tessa and Markus xx |
